Autism Spectrum Disorder

A neurodevelopmental disorder associated with difficulties in communication and social interaction, and repetitive behaviors.

Signs of Autism could appear as early as 18 months and by the age of 2, diagnosis can already be considered very reliable. Some of those signs may include:

1. Poor eye contact and joint attention
2. Difficulty with changes in routine
3. Delayed speech or echolalia
4. Inpropriate laughing or crying

5. Difficulty making friends
6. Lack of awareness to danger
7. Excessive obsession towards a topic or unusual repetitive play
8. Oversensitivity to sounds

Although it may be normal for children to display these behaviors, while other children grow out of those behaviors with age, those with ADHD do not – these behaviors last until adulthood.

Some of the signs may include:

1. Daydream a lot
2. Talk a lot
3. Fidget a lot
4. Take unnecessary risks

5. Forgetful
6. Difficulty in resisting temptation
7. Difficulty in making friends
8. Difficulty in waiting

Although it may be normal for children to display these behaviors, while other children grow out of those behaviors with age, those with ADHD do not – these behaviors last until adulthood.

Global Developmental Delay (GDD)

A term used to describe the condition whereby a child is late in achieving developmental milestones in at least 2 developmental areas, some of the areas where delays may occur include: cognitive skills, speech and language skills, fine and gross motor skills, social and emotional skills, and daily living skills.

Some of the signs of GDD include:

1. Poor social and communication skills (by 6 months)
2. Unable to sit up straight (by 8 months)
3. Unable to crawl or walk (by 12 months)

4. Problem with fine and gross motor
5. Use aggression as coping effort
6. Communication problems
